Detroit Catholic Central (10-10, 3-5): The Shamrocks had a tough time in league play, not getting a victory over Jesuit and De La Salle. Bill Dyer can turn things around for Catholic Central by fixing a defense that allowed 51.3 points per game overall and 64.1 ppg in the CHSL Central.  Mlive

Chip Lutz, the one-time head coach at Milford, took over the program in the offseason. The Warriors went 12-10 last season and return a talented roster with plenty of experience. Seniors Jerald Booker, John Flowers and Marcus Bailey form a dynamic trio capable of producing in a number of ways on the court. Two additional seniors Demond Young and Daryl Porter round out the starting lineup.  Mlive

20th MCRC Boys Previews: Grand Rapids Union

Taking a look at the pre-season top ranked teams participating in the 20th Annual Motor City Roundball Classic.

GRAND RAPIDS UNION RED HAWKS

Coach: Brandoen Guyton (2nd year).

2013-14 record: 13-8 overall (5-5 OK Black, 3rd place).

Key players:Curtis Davison (Sr., G), DeQuaveon Stuckey (Sr., G), Jeff Lee (Sr., G), Keidren Davis (Jr., F), Sergio Diaz (Jr., G), JJ Williams (Fr., G).

2014-15 outlook: With speed and athleticism, the Red Hawks look to soar out of the middle of the pack in the OK Black. No stranger to the Red Hawks’ lineup, fourth-year starter Curtis Davison (6-foot-1) averaged 18 points per game as one of the area’s top scorers. He also finished the season with a 3-point percentage at 57 percent. Dequaveon Stuckey (5-8) is an athletic guard who can pass -- averaging 7 assists per game -- and score to the tune of 14 points per game. Jeffery Lee (6-2) is great in transition and as a slasher guard. Expect Kediren Davis (6-6) to put it up from mid-range and Sergio Diaz (6-3) from 3-point land. Only a freshman, JJ Williams (5-10) has already earned recognition as one of the top players in his class from Prep Hoops Michigan. “We are a quick and athletic team,” Guyton said. “Our guards are strong and so is our 3-point shooting. Our weaknesses are true size and experience. We have a great non-conference schedule with six of the state’s top teams.”

20th MCRC Boys Previews: Detroit Pershing

Taking a look at the pre-season top ranked teams participating in the 20th Annual Motor City Roundball Classic.

Team Page (Team info, Schedule, Results, Stats)

Even though Pershing lost seven seniors from last year's team, the reigning Doughboys should be the favorites this season. Marquel Ingram was a key contributor last season, and will be a senior leader, while sophomore Amani Felder will step into a bigger role this season in the backcourt. The main challenge for Pershing will be replacing forward Justin Tillman, now playing for VCU. Mlive
